Roadside Assistance

Battery boosts, lockouts, flat-tire changes, and fuel delivery — the problems that get you moving again without a tow.

Not every roadside problem needs a tow truck bed. A boost, a spare tire, a jerry can, or a slim-jim solves a large share of the calls we take, and it costs you far less than a tow.

Ottawa winters are hard on batteries. A vehicle that cranked fine at 5°C can be completely dead at −25°C, and a boost in a parking lot takes minutes. If the battery will not hold after a boost, we can tow it to a shop instead — the driver will tell you honestly which one you need.

Lockouts are the other constant. Keys on the seat, keys in the trunk, a fob that died in the cold. We use proper lockout tooling designed for modern vehicles rather than anything that will mark a door frame or damage weatherstripping.

If you are out of fuel, we bring enough to get you to a station rather than filling the tank roadside. If you have a flat and a usable spare, we will change it; if the spare is missing, damaged, or the wheel is seized on, the vehicle gets towed instead.

What this covers

  • Battery boost and jump-start
  • Vehicle lockout entry
  • Flat-tire change using your spare
  • Emergency fuel delivery
  • Honest assessment of whether a tow is actually needed

What happens when you call

  1. 1

    Tell us the symptom

Describe what the vehicle is doing. Clicking, cranking-but-not-starting, and completely dead are three different problems.

  2. 2

    We send the right help

A service call for a boost or lockout is a different dispatch than a tow, and it is priced differently.

  3. 3

    Roadside attempt

The driver tries the roadside fix first. If it works, you drive away.

  4. 4

    Tow only if needed

If the fix does not hold, we tow instead and you are told the cost before anything is loaded.

Questions about roadside assistance

If a boost does not work, do I still pay for it?
A service call is charged for the driver attending and attempting the work. Ask the dispatcher for the exact figures when you call so there are no surprises.
Can you unlock any vehicle?
Most vehicles, yes. Some newer models with fully electronic latches cannot be opened non-destructively and need a dealer or locksmith. The driver will tell you rather than force it.
Will a boost damage my electronics?
Not when done properly with the correct polarity and a controlled supply. That is exactly why a bad roadside boost from a stranger is a risk worth avoiding.
